What is ACDF Surgery?

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) is a procedure used to treat a cervical herniated disc or cervical spinal stenosis. It involves removing the compressing disc from the front of the neck and fusing the two adjacent vertebrae.

How It Is Diagnosed

How the Surgery Is Performed

The surgeon accesses the vertebrae through a small incision in the front of the neck, removes the damaged disc, inserts a medical spacer (cage), and stabilizes the two vertebrae to restore spinal balance and stability.

Recovery Period

The patient gradually resumes daily activities, following mobility instructions that may include wearing a neck brace for a brief period.

Risks and Complications

There are minor, limited risks such as temporary difficulty swallowing or mild, transient voice changes, both of which typically resolve with time.
